homemade shaving cream from scratch

Discover how to make a homemade shaving cream from scratch, with natural ingredients, detailed steps, storage tips, and answers to the most common questions. A simple, natural, and effective recipe that will leave your skin soft and happy.

Today I’m sharing something I’m really excited about: how to make your own homemade shaving cream. It’s a lovely and very satisfying experience. I’m going to tell you everything: why I decided to try it, what ingredients I use, how I make it, how to store it, and which skin types it works best for. Let’s go!

Why make homemade shaving cream?

1. The appeal of natural ingredients

It all started one day when I was looking at the labels on supermarket shaving creams; I couldn’t even pronounce the names of half the ingredients. I started thinking, ‘If I have olive oil, honey, aloe vera… why not use them for something I do so often?’ that’s how I got the idea of switching from artificial products to natural ones. And honestly, when you make your own cream, you feel like you’re taking back control over what you put on your skin.

Making it yourself is a nice way to take care of yourself and your loved ones because you know exactly what’s in it and avoid harsh products or fragrances that may irritate your skin. Plus, it smells fresh and natural, like the countryside and real ingredients.

2. Gentle care for your skin

Shaving can leave your skin tight or irritated, especially if the cream doesn’t protect well. A good cream has to soften the hair, lubricate the skin, and allow the razor to glide smoothly without irritating the skin. And if you make it yourself, you can tailor it to your needs: more moisturizing, lighter, with a mild scent, or fragrance-free. It’s like cooking something for yourself, but for your skincare routine.

3. Sustainability and savings

The best part is that besides taking care of yourself, you’re taking care of the planet and your wallet. You don’t use unnecessary plastic or chemicals that end up in the water. And most of the ingredients you already have at home or are very easy to get. Making homemade shaving cream is a small change that can make a real difference.

Ingredients we’re going to use

For this homemade shaving cream I’ve tried several combinations and, in the end, this is the one I prefer. it has a creamy, pleasant texture and leaves your skin feeling great.

  • 47 grams of coconut oil.
  • 86 grams of olive oil.

Frequently asked questions about homemade shaving cream

Can I use it on any area of the body?

Yes, you can use it on your legs, underarms, or face. Adjust the amount depending on the area you’re shaving.

Can I change the ingredients?

Sure. If you don’t have shea butter, use cocoa butter or a good vegetable oil.

Why doesn’t it lather as much as commercial shaving creams?

Commercial shaving creams often contain foaming agents, while this one has a creamier texture. The important thing isn’t the foam, but that it protects the skin and lets the razor glide without causing irritation.

What if I want a more traditionally masculine scent?

Perfect. You can use cedar, sandalwood, or peppermint essential oil.

What should I do if it causes mild irritation?

Rinse with warm water and apply a soothing cream. Your skin may not tolerate one of the ingredients well, most likely the essential oil.
